Carolina De Santiago joined the Center for Computational Oncology in the Fall of 2019. She is currently a first year Ph.D student in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin working in the lab of Dr. Nichole Rylander. Carolina completed her undergraduate studies at Rice University in Houston, TX where she received her bachelors in Bioengineering.

Carolina’s research broadly focuses on the role of the tumor microenvironment in tumor development for breast cancer by utilizing a three dimensional in vitro platform. She is interested in developing a platform that can physiologically represent the interactions of cancer cells with blood and lymph vessels. Ultimately, the goal of the project is to find key. largest for early diagnosis and therapeutic intervention. Outside of lab, Carolina enjoys running, traveling with family and eating tacos.
