My research focuses on building a mechanism based model of the cellular response to radiation which includes DNA repair and cell death pathways. Most current attempts at modeling this phenomena are based on Linear-Quadratic model, which is a pure curve fitting approach developed more than 30 years ago that has a tenuous connection to the underlying biology. By including multiple DNA repair pathways (i.e., non-homologous end joining and homologous recombination), we hope to advance the understanding how tumor cells respond to radiation.
